Adanne Bookshop & Jaylene Clark Owens

The Challenge

Adanne, a Black-woman-owned bookstore in Brooklyn, founded by Darlene Okpo, hosts monthly community events but needed fresh programming ideas that would deepen community engagement and create memorable experiences beyond a traditional bookstore event.

The Solution

When author Jaylene released A Black Girl and Her Braids in February, we saw an opportunity to bring the book to life in a way that went beyond a standard signing.

We conceptualized and produced a mom-daughter hair braiding class — a hands-on, cultural experience that connected directly to the heart of the book. From ideation to execution, we collaborated with Darlene to develop the event concept, source products for the class, and structure ticket pricing to serve her existing community.
